山影 Mountain Shadows
I put two pieces of xuan paper together by soaking them in water, and then repeatedly draw ink dots on the paper, letting the excessive ink drip down the soaked paper. Washed by the water spreading out over the paper's surface, the ink gradually forms steaks of black against the white paper like waterfalls.
Having observed the ink between the blank areas penetrating into the paper, I use my imagination to add various kinds of texture strokes in ink. Meanwhile, I rely on water and its nature to force the ink into the paper or wash them away, so that new ink marks can be created. I paint new details from my imagination again, and such a process would repeat until the work is finished. As a result of the texture strokes washed away by water, the blurred stripes of grey present themselves as hazy imagery of mountains.
Finally, the two piece of paper are separated and place side by side to form a mirror image, and the ink marks resemble the mountains reflected in the water.
